If your requirements are not met from our standard ranges of bearings, we will be pleased to offer a special design to suit your particular specifications.
SK Bearings have developed thousands of innovative solutions over the last 50 years. This is particularly true of landmark projects where new approaches frequently present novel challenges. For example, our specialised solutions are in use in the Channel Tunnel and the Thames Barrier.
It is important to note that many of the data provided in our publications must necessarily be illustrative and may be subject to a variety of other variables (such as rotational requirements).
There is a great deal of flexibility across our product ranges (for instance to include holes and slots for holding down bolts, providing for additional movement etc.). It is also often possible to combine multiple arrangements of bearings to meet particular requirements.
However, because of the grave repercussions which could follow if the wrong type of bearings are used, we strongly recommend that specifiers check that the products are suitable for their intended purpose with our Technical Department. We offer this service free of charge, for your peace of mind.
SK Bearings have test facilities to Grade A Standard and a test press with a National Physical Laboratory calibration certificate. It is capable of imposing vertical loads of up to 5,000 kN combined with horizontal loads of up to 250 kN. Hence, it is possible to conduct full scale tests on complete bearings to the required standard.
Our Quality Control Laboratory is fully equipped with the latest equipment, enabling our technical staff to check products at each stage of the manufacturing process and maintain a high standard. Certificates and letters of conformity are available for our products if required.
We have the facilities to test for example, shear resistance, tensile strength, degrees hardness IRHD, and ozone or UV light degradation.
Our new fire protection for bearings was developed using a full-sized, gas-fired furnace on site, capable of indicative tests using the BS 476 time-temperature curve. We invest substantially to ensure that we maintain the highest standards in testing, research and quality control. We can offer the sort of expertise which is only available from one of the UK's most innovative companies (as we were recently described by the Design Council).
A concentration on quality and knowledge places us in a particularly strong position to help clients by developing novel or bespoke solutions for unusual applications - or simply providing the facilities to carry out tests. For further information, our technical department will be pleased to assist.
Ensuring that expert technical support is on tap - without charge, of course - is all part of our service.
We frequently give talks on the use of bearings to groups of engineers. These can be tailored to cover specific interests and are available in-house or at our Cambridge site. There are no charges for this service. Contact us for further details.
Our service continues beyond the point of sale. For example, we follow through with site visits to advise contractors on how the bearings should be installed.
We are also available to assist with projects involving remedial work or where our bearings may be required to solve a particular problem. In the vast majority of cases there is no charge for this service.
